Balcones Village/Spicewood Estates, The Park at Spicewood
Located in NW Austin, this golf course community was developed in the late 1970s, with Balcones Country Club at its' center. When the community was originally developed in the 1960's by Bill Cotton, there were two 18 hole golf courses set way out in the country, where the city of Austin had not yet run sewer lines. All of the lots were large, most were 1/3+ acre lots, to provide room to put in septic fields for each home. Annexed in 2007 by the City of Austin, sewer lines were added in the neighborhood, though many homes still are on septic, and owned by the original owners. Most lots also have numerous large oak trees, too.
The Round Rock ISD schools service these neighborhoods. Spicewood Elementary, Canyon Vista Middle School and Westwood High School. The schools are exemplary, and Westwood offers AP and IB programs and is nationally ranked. These are highly sought after neighborhoods, because the schools provide a fantastic education for children.
